Sabancı University students achieved significant success at the 34th IEEE Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU 2026), hosted by Piri Reis University from July 7 to 10. At the conference, where researchers from various universities across Türkiye presented their work, two of our graduate students won first and second place awards in different categories.

First Place Award in Image Processing
Amirreza Khoshbakht, a graduate student in the Data Science Program at Sabancı University, was awarded the First Place Award in the Image Processing and Computer Vision category for his work titled "Spectral-Spatial Open-Set Recognition with Adaptive Contrastive Semantic Reconstruction for Hyperspectral Image Classification". The co-author of the work was Prof. Dr. Erchan Aptoula, a faculty member at the Sabancı University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

Second Place in the Communications and Networks Category
Samuel Sani, a graduate student in the Electronic Engineering Program at Sabancı University, won the Second Place Award in the Communications and Networks category with his study titled "OFDM vs. SC-FDMA for Monostatic THz ISAC UAV Sensing Under Beam Misalignment". The study was co-authored by Halenur Polat, a TÜBİTAK project intern undergraduate student from Gebze Technical University, Prof. Dr. Özgür Gürbüz, a faculty member at Sabancı University's Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, and Dr. Mikail Erdem, a PhD graduate in Electronic Engineering from Sabancı University.
This achievement at SIU 2026, which brought together researchers from different universities in Türkiye and highlighted postgraduate research, once again demonstrated the competence of Sabancı University students in scientific research.
